Bed Sheets
It does not matter whether or not you own or rent a house, live in a flat or even in a hotel sooner or later you will need to have the bed sheets replacing. If you do need to buy new bed sheets then you take in to consideration the thread count.
Like the Persian and Turkish rugs the thread count tells you how many knots are in a square inch of the fabric used, the smaller the knot the more there is and the better the quality. So when looking at the quality and how soft it is look at the knot size and count.
The next bit that needs to be looked at is the material used. Most poly cotton threads do not need ironing as much as say one hundred percent natural fibered sheets, the best way to avoid ironing sheets if you hate ironing as much as me is to place the sheets on your mattress as soon as they come out of the dryer. Always remember that are different grades of cotton.
The quality of the cotton is measured by how long the staple is and the staple refers to how long the cotton can be pulled into one single piece of thread, so the longer the thread the better the quality and the longer it lasts.
There are two types of cotton that are favoured, the most of which are Egyptian and Pima also known as Supima, which both provide a very soft and luxurious feel to the material. These types of fabrics are very supple and durable. When comparing to poly-cotton, results show that that the natural cotton breathes and absorbs moisture better.
The only down fall of the natural cotton bed sheets is that they cost more money than the poly-cotton bed sheets. When you do need to purchase bed sheets for your mattress you need to find out what the depth is first, as the thickness of the mattress is called the pocket size and this is what the corners of the bed sheets are made for. When locating a set that fits always try and find a set that is three to six inches depending on the mattress so that the bed sheets do not slip.
